Located in Salem, MA Titan Advanced Energy Solutions develops industry-leading, ultrasound-based battery diagnostics systems for applications in the 2nd life market for re-purposing used EV batteries as well as battery management systems for electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and stationary storage. 

Reporting to the Head of the Algorithm team, the Data Engineer / Scientist is responsible for processing and interpreting vast volumes of data (c.72 data files) that are generated from our battery lab daily, to provide measurable and automated solutions that will allow Titan to estimate the properties of our batteries and improve charge and health for our customers. This role is best suited to someone with an MSc or PhD in data science, statistics or engineering and you will be familiar with producing meaningful statistics in Python or R. You will be working on complex physics problems and must have an appetite for finding creative and innovative solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Download data from the laboratory on a daily basis
  • Use and develop in-house software tools in Python to assess data quality and report issues
  • Conduct preliminary analyses of data including plotting and statistics
  • Use in-house software in Python to conduct data and signal processing
  • Merge ultrasound data sets with other related data sets, e.g. electrical and thermal
  • Communicate processes to the larger team in weekly meetings and written documents

 Required skills:

  • Expert programming in Python (including as a minimum Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib)
  • Passion for managing large multi-dimensional data sets
  • Solid understanding and experience of electrical systems and signals (voltage, current, etc.)
  • Formal training and experience in statistics including hypothesis testing (t-test, ANOVA, etc.)
  • Ability to implement statistical tests in Python or R
  • Experience working with non-relational databases
  • Ability to own a problem from inception to completion with measurable results
  • A willingness to learn new technical methods and processes as needed
  • MSc/PhD in data science, statistics, engineering, computer science, physics, math, or similar
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineer/scientist role, or similar

 Preferred skills:

  • Expert-level knowledge in statistics and hypothesis testing
  • Experience with ultra-sound signals or imaging
  • Experience with time-domain signal processing
  • Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals
